Toledo Walleye Aim for Redemption in ECHL Conference Finals
As the ECHL playoffs intensify, the Toledo Walleye have emerged as a dominant force, steamrolling their way to the Conference Finals with a remarkable winning streak and standout performances from key players. With their sights set on the Kelly Cup Finals, the Walleye are poised for a shot at redemption after last year’s disappointment.
The regular season saw forward Brandon Hawkins emerge as a powerhouse, leading the team with an impressive 93 points, including 40 goals and 53 assists. Hawkins’ offensive prowess set the tone for the Walleye’s success, showcasing his ability to impact games decisively.

However, it’s been the team’s collective effort that has truly propelled them into the spotlight. The Walleye closed out the regular season with a stunning 14-game winning streak, carrying this momentum into the playoffs with an ongoing 22-game streak. This dominance was further highlighted by their convincing sweeps of the Kalamazoo Wings in the Central Division Semi-Finals and the Wheeling Nailers in the Central Division Finals.
In the postseason, forwards Riley Sawchuk, Sam Craggs, and Brandon Hawkins have been instrumental, each contributing 11 points to bolster the team’s offensive charge. Their ability to step up in critical moments has been pivotal in navigating through tough playoff matchups.
Solid goaltending has also played a significant role in the Walleye’s success. Jan Bednar and John Lethemon have been formidable in net, maintaining an average of around 2 goals against per game throughout the playoffs. Their consistency and composure under pressure have provided a crucial backbone for the team’s defensive efforts.

With their last appearance in the Kelly Cup Finals dating back to the 2018-19 season, the Toledo Walleye are hungry for another shot at championship glory. This season’s squad appears to be a well-rounded unit capable of making a serious push towards the ultimate prize.
The stage is now set for the Conference Finals, with the first three games hosted in Toledo against the Kansas City Mavericks, commencing on Friday, May 17th. The Walleye will undoubtedly rely on their home advantage and the support of their passionate fans as they aim to seize control of the series and advance to the next stage of the playoffs.
As anticipation builds and the stakes heighten, one thing is certain: the Toledo Walleye are determined to rewrite their playoff narrative and secure a spot in the Kelly Cup Finals. With a potent blend of talent, momentum, and resolve, this could very well be the season that Toledo fans have been eagerly waiting for.
